Should you use LAYERS or NODES for VFX? (Complete Analysis)
Your support is appreciated! www.patreon.com/inlightvfx
In the world of Visual Effects, there are two types of software that artists use to composite VFX shots: layer-based software, and node-based software. To compare the two, we'll use After Effects (layers) and Nuke (nodes). We'll create the same VFX shot in each program and compare both workflows. So when your next VFX project comes along, you'll be able to choose between layers or nodes with confidence!

    Fantastic video. But one thing had me a bit confused. You said "log footage leads to smaller file sizes than raw" which is like saying "Rec709 has a smaller file size than jpg". Those are 2 completely different things. One is a color space and the other is a file format. I don't know if the log color space affects the file size on an H. 264 coded file but raw footage generally contains the information to work in a log format. But I learnt some new things about linear and non linear gamma/light. Great work!

    • @InLightVFX
      @InLightVFX 16 днів тому

      Hi Jason. If you have a camera and record a file with a log color space and then record the same length file in RAW, you are generally going to get a smaller file with the log color space, no? This is a serious question as this is how it is intuitively in my brain but I just want to make sure I'm right about that. I think that's just what I meant by that phrasing. Thanks for watching!

    Do you have any information on scripting or automating this? Everyone else I've seen either doesn't do compositing and only does animation as-is out of the render, or doesn't talk about breaking out the render layers and doing all of the collections separation. I'd love to use blender for more things but the incredibly manual process is pretty offputting. Easy if you have one thing, horribly annoyingly manual if you have even 4 objects
